On June 17, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Medicine Out Patient Department (OPD), JNIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was conducted by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Programme Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal and he was accompanied by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Programme Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
Mr. Paringanba commenced the session with an interactive discussion to assess the participants’ existing knowledge and perceptions regarding organ donation. He then delivered a comprehensive and informative presentation that clearly distinguished between living and deceased organ donation while highlighting its importance. He emphasized the transformative and life-saving impact of organ donation, noting that a single donor has the potential to save up to eight lives.
He also provided an overview of the progress made in the field of organ donation and transplantation in Manipur, highlighting successful transplantation procedures carried out at healthcare institutions across the state as significant milestones in the advancement of medical expertise and transplantation services in the region. The session concluded with an insightful discussion on the legal and ethical aspects of organ donation and transplantation. He emphasized that the commercial trade and trafficking of human organs are strictly prohibited and punishable under the law.
Participants were further encouraged to pledge their support for organ donation and were provided with information on the toll-free helpline and the Manipur office contact number for any organ-donation-related inquiries. Informational leaflets were also distributed at the end of the session to enhance awareness and facilitate access to relevant information.
Approximately 25 participants were reached through the session.
