On February 13, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Eye Out-Patient Department (OPD) of JNIMS as part of the ongoing public education sessions.
The session was conducted by Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal, and was coordinated by Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator, JNIMS.
Ms. Priya delivered a comprehensive overview of the various organs that can be donated and clearly articulated the distinction between living and deceased organ donation. She placed particular emphasis on the vital role of deceased organ donation in addressing the shortage of organs available for transplantation. In addressing common misconceptions, she reassured participants that corneal retrieval after death does not result in any disfigurement of the donor’s body, thereby easing prevalent concerns among families. She further informed the participants that the retrieval process can also be conducted at the donor’s residence.
Ms. Priya also encouraged the attendees to consider registering as organ donors and emphasized the importance of clearly communicating their decision to family members and loved ones to ensure that their wishes are respected and duly honoured.
Information pamphlets were distributed to reinforce the key messages shared during the session. Approximately 15 participants actively took part in the program and gained meaningful insights into organ donation and its life-changing impact.
