The staff of Cloudnine Hospital attended an organ donation awareness session conducted by the MOHAN Foundation (MF) at the hospital’s Punjabi Bagh branch on December 11, 2025. The session was held at the invitation of Cloudnine Hospital and was led by Ms. Simran, Programme Officer, along with Ms. Annie, Programme Officer, MF, NCR.
Before discussing organ donation, Ms. Annie provided a brief overview of the Foundation. She then spoke about the importance of discussing organ donation with family and friends and highlighted how a selfless act of compassion can positively impact multiple lives.
Ms. Simran continued the session with a comprehensive explanation that addressed what organ donation is, donor eligibility, difference between living and deceased donation, The Transplantation of Human organs Act, 1994, along with the myths revolving around organ donation especially in the Indian context.
She went on to explain the difference between brain death and coma, highlighting the medical process used to certify brain death. A short video was shown to demonstrate how brain death is diagnosed, helping the audience better understand the concept. She also discussed the importance of the intensive care unit (ICU) team sensitively approaching and discussing organ donation with the family of a brain-dead patient during such a critical time. Common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation were also addressed.
Ms. Simran further shared an organ donation case involving a young boy who met with a tragic accident and eventually passed away in the hospital. His father was commended for his courage and selflessness in making the difficult decision to donate his son’s organs.
Towards the end of the session, participants raised questions such as, “How will the authorities know that a person is dead?” and “How smooth is the organ retrieval process?” After addressing these concerns, Ms. Simran encouraged everyone to learn more about organ donation. Additionally, one participant shared that her late aunt had donated her eyes, serving as a powerful example of courage and compassion and reinforcing the belief that such acts of kindness can be carried out by anyone, regardless of who we are.
Around 30 participants attended the session, and one of them expressed willingness to pledge for organ donation.
