  • An eye donation awareness session was conducted for the senior citizens and general public at the Old Age Home in Palghar on Friday, November 7, 2025. On this day, an informative session on Eye Donation and Corneal Blindness was organized to educate and engage the residents. The program was arranged by the management of the Old Age Home, who invited Ms. Prachiti Mali from MOHAN Foundation as the guest speaker.

Ms. Prachiti Mali began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its mission of promoting organ and eye donation across the country. She briefly explained the work carried out by the Foundation and emphasized its long-standing commitment to raising awareness and enabling people to pledge for donation.

Before moving into the detailed concepts, Ms. Prachiti interacted with the audience by asking simple questions such as “What do you think eye donation means?” and “Can elderly people donate their eyes?” This helped the participants feel comfortable and encouraged them to share their thoughts openly.

She then explained the meaning of eye donation and focused on the significance of corneal donation in treating corneal blindness. She highlighted that corneal blindness is one of the major causes of vision loss in India and that a single donor can restore the sight of two individuals. Ms. Prachiti discussed the causes of corneal blindness, the importance of timely retrieval of eyes, and the simple procedure through which donation takes place.

The difference between myths and facts related to eye donation was explained in an easy-to-understand manner. Ms. Prachiti addressed common misconceptions, including worries about disfigurement or medical ineligibility, and reassured the participants that the donation process is respectful and safe. She also spoke about the legal aspects of eye donation, the requirement for consent from next of kin, and the importance of informing an eye bank within six hours after death to ensure successful cornea retrieval.

The session concluded with an interactive question–answer segment. One of the questions asked was, “Is there any age limit for corneal donation?” which she explained clearly by reiterating that elderly persons are equally eligible to donate. Participants appreciated the clarity and practicality of the information provided.

A total of 25 residents and general public members attended the session, making it a meaningful and impactful event. The Old Age Home staff and participants expressed their gratitude to Ms. Prachiti Mali for her informative and engaging presentation. MOHAN Foundation thanks the Old Age Home, Palghar, for their cooperation and support in spreading awareness on the noble cause of eye and organ donation.
