An Awareness Talk on Organ Donation by MOHAN Foundation at Akash Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru

  • Dr. Kumar U, HOD - Department of Forensic Medicine from Akash Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Devanahalli, Bengaluru invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an interactive session on organ donation for the students and staff of the college. MOHAN Foundation team organized the awareness event on 12th November, 2025.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager and Mr. Nagendra Kumar R the Transplant Coordinator.

    Mrs. Ranjini opened the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and sharing its mission and vision. She went on to deliver a comprehensive talk covering a wide range of topics, including:

    The concept of organ and tissue donation

    • Types of death: circulatory death and brain death
    • Brain death declaration, including the Apnoea test and other clinical assessments
    • Procedures involved in deceased and live organ donation
    • Specific processes for eye, skin, and bone donation
    • Barriers to organ donation
    • Myths and facts surrounding organ donation
    • The concept and significance of the Green Corridor in organ transport
    • The role of Jeevasarthakathe in organ allocation and coordination in Karnataka
    • An overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA)
    • The importance of carrying a donor card and steps to pledge for organ donation

    The session was well-received by all participants. A total of 350 individuals attended the program, all of them pledged to become organ donors by signing up at the end of the session.
