On January 19, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, Tripura, conducted an awareness programme on organ donation at Bamutia, Agartala, West Tripura. The programme aimed to educate members of the local community about the importance of organ donation and to encourage individuals to pledge for this noble and life-saving cause.
MOHAN Foundation was represented by Ms. Nipa Modak, Program Executive, who led the awareness session.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitise community members about the importance of organ donation, the current need for organ transplants in India and Tripura, and the vital role communities can play in supporting this cause. Ms. Modak began the session by introducing the mission and key activities of MOHAN Foundation, followed by a detailed overview of organ donation.
Her presentation covered the types of organ donation, organs and tissues that can be donated, and the concepts of brain death and deceased organ donation. She highlighted the rising number of organ failure cases across the country and the significant gap between the demand for organs and their availability.
Special emphasis was placed on recent developments in Tripura following the launch of the organ donation and transplantation programme in the state, and on how local communities can actively contribute by spreading awareness and encouraging informed decision-making.
Ms. Modak also addressed common myths and misconceptions that often act as barriers to organ donation, helping participants better understand the medical, legal, and ethical aspects involved. The programme was well received, with participants expressing appreciation for MOHAN Foundation’s efforts in delivering an informative and motivating session.
Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed to reinforce key messages and encourage commitment among community members.
The session focused on promoting both deceased and living organ donation, dispelling misconceptions, and strengthening community participation to support the organ donation movement in the state. A total of 11 participants attended the programme.
