Angels of Change Volunteer Training conducted for Salman Khan Fan Club by MOHAN Foundation, Mumbai

  • On 3rd June 2019, MOHAN Foundation conducted an Angels of Change volunteering training workshop for the Salman Khan Fan club called Being SamajikEvamSanskritikSanstha, National burn Center, a retired school principal, a social worker and a school security person at M.D.College auditorium, Mumbai.

    Mrs. Jaya Jairam started the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its work. Some activities like mind mapping was conducted.

    Dr. Jimmy Gupta then shared about the concepts of Organ and tissue donation, types of death and what can be donated. She also discussed about number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories, articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the students.

    Mr. Akash Salve explained about the Brain death committee, the Brain Death certification process and the tests that are carried out to certify the patient as brain dead. He also shared a few case studies with the participants. The religious barriers and myths related to organ donation were also discussed at depth.

    More activities included participants writing a thank you letter to donor families, stories of inspiration and an activity on the organ donation protocol. Mrs. Jaya Jairam ended by sharing her beautiful story, being a kidney recipient who received a kidney from her mother and few heart touching videos about organ donation were screened to the participants so that they could empathize with the power of organ donation. Also they were invited to speak about the whole process of organ donation & feedback about the workshop was given. About 18 participants attended the workshop & all the participants pledged to be organ donors. 

    We thank the volunteers for committing to the cause. We also thank the Principal of M.D. College forgraciously agreeing to give us the venue for the workshop.
