An awareness session on organ donation was conducted at the Primary Health Centre, Andro, Manipur.

  • On February 10, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the second time at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Andro, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, conducted the session.

     

    Medical officers and staff of the centre, accredited social health activists (ASHAs) of the area, and patients visiting the PHC attended the session. The programme was conducted as a continuation of the Ayushman Bhava Campaign.

     

    Monica started the session by assessing the knowledge of the participants about organ donation and transplantation. She then explained the following points in detail:

     

    • Organ donation and its need in society.

    • Types of donations.

    • Transplant waiting list in India.

    • Facts and myths on organ donation.

    • Simplifying brain death.

    • The story of the first deceased donation in Manipur.

    • Eye bank and corneal transplant

    • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

     

    At the end of the session, frequently asked questions (FAQs) translated into local languages on organ donation were distributed to the participants for a better understanding of the topic.

     

    Close to 20 participants attended the programme.
