Transplantation of human organs from one human being to another is undoubtedly one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of this century. However, very few Indian patients are able to benefit from this medical advancement. It is estimated that in India every year over 100,000 people are diagnosed to have kidney failure and would be needing a transplantation. Due, mainly, to non-availability of organs only about 2,500 kidney transplants are done. Heart and liver failure patients hardly have any hope of living and they are just left alone to slowly pass away. Majority of these patients are young and their only hope to live is by having an organ transplantation.

Features of eye donationIn the last decade Eye Donation has been very popular in our country and this gesture has now become the accepted norm of our society. The Government of India in 1994 passed an Act called "THE TRANSPLANTATION OF HUMAN ORGANS ACT" to broaden this concept and it is now possible to donate one's other organs like heart,  kidney, liver, pancreas and thus alleviate the suffering of many of the patients waiting for organ transplantation.

MOHAN FOUNDATION is the brain child of a group of highly motivated, concerned and noncommercial group of practicing medical professionals and their well meaning friends to promote the cause of Organ Donation.

It aims to spread this message to the public. The Foundation also aims at working as a Patient Support Group and believes in the philosophy of "Prevention is better than cure".

To popularise the cause of solid organ donation MOHAN Foundation launched "DONOR CARDS". By carrying this card an individual expresses his or her wish to become an organ donor in the event of anything untoward happening. These "DONOR CARDS" along with a brochure entitled "Priceless Gift" ( which explains about organ donation ) are being distributed free of cost to the people in Chennai and by post to people in other parts of the country.

The foundation also distributes literature and scientific articles to the Patients, Physicians & Public on various topics related to organ transplantation and the medical field. The Foundation distributes hundreds of current scientific articles related to organ transplantation to physicians. (Details are available on request)
