Rotary clubs host a talk on organ donation in Nasik

  • The Rotary Clubs of Nashik and Canada Corner jointly organized a public function on “Organ donation – Pros and Cons” on 14th July 2015 at Parshuram Saikhedkar Hall, Nashik. The guest speaker was Dr. Ravi Wankhede who spoke on the importance & the need of the organ donations. The other speakers were Mr. Vinod Haria, Sudhir Bagaitkar, Purushottam Pawar, Shripad Agashe and Dr. Bhausaheb Morey. The latter spoke on Eye, Body and Skin Donation. Dr. Bhausaheb Morey a cadaver liver recipient years back spoke about his experience and said his life is due to the person whose family agreed to donate organs after sustaining brain death at Chennai.

     

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede spoke about the Transplant Law, the importance of trained Coordinators, role of Intensive care staff and the need for Non Transplant Organ Retrieval Centres at Nashik. This would facilitate organ retrieval if and when a family consents to donate organs of their family member. The print media had published relevant articles written by Dr. Ravi Wankhede in the local dailies, which saw a good attendance of Nashikites. More than 350 people came to attend the enlightening talks.

     

    President of Rotary Club of Nashik, Vivek Jaykhedkar and Secretary Anil Sukenkar along with Rotary Club Canada Corner President Ar. Supriya Nathe & Secretary Jaishree Patil worked hard to make the program a grand success. Rtn. Dr. Sudhir Sankalecha conducted the program with aplomb and grace.
