Peer education program on Organ Donation by Angels of Change at Anna Adarsh School

  • On 29th July 2017, MOHAN Foundation had a concluding session of the Angels of Change Volunteer Training program Anna Adarsh Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai. The event started by 8:30am with a briefing of the plans of the students. They had planned a peer education session and the principal had given 2 periods for them. The Angels has made 5 groups for the five sections of the 9th standard and each group member had a assignment for the class education.   

     

    Dr. Hemal, Mr. Siva Shankar, Ms. Stina, Mr. Jayaprakash Daniel  of MOHAN Foundation and Ms Meera Ramesh, Teacher from the school were given in charge of each team. Class presentation began in the following order (listed below)

     1)     Presentation on Organ Donation

     Firstly, one Angel did a presentation of organ donation which covered the following topics

    v  Why, What, When and How is Organ Donation

    v  Types of Organ Donation

    v  Organs and Tissues that can be donated at time of living and death

    v  Introduction to Brain Death, Causes of Brain Death

    v  Difference between Coma and Brain Death

    v  Retrieval and Transplantation Time Period for each organs

    v  Tribute to Organ Donors

    v  About MOHAN Foundation and its activities and Donor card

    This time of presentation gave a very good and better idea about the concept of today’s program

     2)     Poster Presentation

     Secondly, the Angels exhibited their art work themed on Organ Donation and presented it among the students. These works provoked the minds of participants to approach the concept of Organ Donation in a very creative and colourful way, thus resulting in active response from participants’ side.

     3)     Games and Quiz

     A break to monotonous style of presentation, the Angels conducted games on concepts related to Organ Donation. It was well planned that games such as fill in the blanks, jumbled words, CONNECTIONS and QUIZ were part of class presentation; students with more sporting spirit took part and answered to each questions, this also worked as a revision to the concepts.

     4)     Discussion and Feedback  

    After presentation, the students were given time to discuss and ponder over the concepts, during this session many questions were raised by the participants and teachers  and our Angels gave spontaneous and correct answers. Teacher and students expressed their views and gave suggestion for making things best. 

     5)     Pamphlets  and Help-line sticker distribution

     MOHAN Foundation’s brochures on Organ Donation were distributed to the students and Help-line stickers for autorickshaws were distributed to those Angels who wanted to place them in the school autos and buses.  Finally the program ended with photo session.  

    MOHAN Foundation extends sincere gratitude to the Principal and Management for making wonderful arrangement and cooperating with us from day one. It was possible by the excellent support that they have rendered to us.
