Continuous Sensitisation Program for Nurses of RGGGH

    Nurses play a vital role in patient care and also in Organ Donation process. Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai has contributed significantly to the Deceased Organ Donation programme thereby helping poor patients suffering from organ failure.

     

     

    The transplant coordinators of MOHAN Foundation initiated a program to sensitize the nurses of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in March 2013. Initially the program covered nurses of Trauma Ward and IMCU.  The program will continue in April, 2013

     

    The following topics were covered during the sensitization:

    1. Normal Physiology of Brain

    2. Legal issues in Organ Donation

    3. Types of Donor

    4. Brain Death and Coma

    5. Function of Brain stem

    6. Series of test involved during brain death declaration

    7. Apnoea Test

    8. Nurse's responsibilities during Organ Donation

    9. Grief Counseling

    10. Organs can be donated

    11. Eye Donation

    12. Importance of Donor Card

    13. Information given through organ donation Helpline 

     

     

    The nurses raised few questions during the session like:

    1. Ischemic time of organs and

    2. Whole body donation

    Nearly 40 nurses supported  the noble causes and promised  to increase the rate of  eye donation
