Angels of Change, Impact program - Organ Donation awareness talk for future leaders at Guru Nanak College

  • On 5th August 2017, a group of trained volunteers Tagore Medical College Angels of Change team organised an awareness talk at Guru Nanak college. MOHAN Foundation team members were present at the session.  The Angels had been to the college and had conducted a slogan, poem, story and painting competition on the theme of Organ Donation.

     

    The event started by 9:30 am. Firstly, Angel Dr. Shanthi Pandian welcomed the gathering and followed by theme introduction. Dr. Hemal, Ms. Stina and Mr. Jayaprakash Daniel were part of this program by representing MOHAN Foundation.   Around 100 students  from B.Com section attended the  awareness talk.

     

    After the formal welcome, Ms. Deepthi, pre-final year student from Tagore Medical College gave a wonderful and sharp presentation on awareness on organ donation which gave a clear cut understanding about the concept. Her presentation covered the following topics,   

     

    v  Why, What, When and How is Organ Donation

    v  Types of Organ Donation

    v  Organs and Tissues that can be donated at time of living and death

    v  Introduction to Brain Death

    v  Causes of Brain Death

    v  Difference between Coma and Brain Death

    v  Retrieval and Transplantation Time Period for each organs

    v  Tribute to Organ Donors

    v  About MOHAN Foundation and its activities

    • About Toll Free Help-line number

    2)    Prize distribution

     

    After the awareness talk, students were asked to exhibit their art work on concept on organ donation. Students came forward and presented their posters which added flavour to the program.  Prize winning Tamil poem on organ donation was recited by a participant, which made concept poetic and presentation rhythmic. 

     

    As a token of acknowledgment, MOHAN Foundation came forward to felicitate the winners of various competition conducted in this regards. Principal of Guru Nanak College, Dr. Selvaraj distributed prizes and certificates and motivated the winners. 

     

    3)     Summing up

    Lastly, there was a summing up session conducted in order to revise the concepts after which Dr. Hemal gave alter call for establishing ‘Angels of Change’ team in Guru Nanak College. There was an overwhelming responses from participants and the NSS teacher in charge Mr. Ranjith Kumar said that he will take this forward.

     

    MOHAN Foundation’s brochures on Organ Donation was distributed to the participants and Help-line stickers were distributed to the Angels in order to reach society in this regards. 70 students picked a donor card and registered as donors.  Finally the program ended with photo session as memoranda of good beginning.

Punitha Malar, Assistant Professor in Department of Tamil for extending support by spending their valuable time in the program.    

     

    We also extend sincere gratitude to the Principal and Management of Guru Nanak College for making wonderful arrangement and also to the Principal of Tagore Medical College for the extraordinary cooperation in allowing the ‘Angels of Change’ team to host program.
