A well-trained ambassador has the power to shift public perception, drive meaningful change, and create a ripple effect of awareness in the cause of organ donation.

The Challenge We Face Today

India is at a critical juncture when it comes to organ donation. In 2023 Indian marked a significant milestone by having more than 1000 deceased donors leading to 2,935 life saving transplants through these donors.

Presently, there are over 3,00,000 patients awaiting organ donations in India with only 16,000 donors of which 80% are living donors. This shortfall in organ transplants leads to 20 deaths daily. For the past ten years, the rate of deceased organ donation in India has consistently remained below one donor per million individuals. (Jain and Bhalla 2023 site).

Adding to this shortfall, the low rate of donations is fuelled by misinformation, cultural misconceptions, and stigma.

As an Ambassador Trainee I attended Module 2 on Feb 7, 2026. The session today was useful, mainly the Q&A. By now, we are already convinced about the importance of awareness, so there is no need to convince us further. We need more such arguments such as the one shared by Jaya on how to convince people who are uncomfortable with the idea of donation. We also need the
