Organ-O-Cultural 2010

National Organ Donor week is celebrated every year from 8th to 14th August. This year, MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) is organising “Organ-o-Cultural 2010”, a programme to commemorate the deceased organ donors who have passed on their life to others.

Organ-o-Cultural 2010 will take place on 9th August 2010 at the Seminar Hall, Madras Medical College. Thiru.V.K.Subburaj I.A.S., Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Tamil Nadu has consented to be the Chief Guest and will honour the nurses, lab technicians, helpers and police personnel who helped facilitate the organ donation process at Government General Hospital, Chennai. Prof. J. Mohanasundaram, Dean MMC, and Dr. C. Veni, Medical Superintendent, Govt. General Hospital will be the Guests of Honour. An Organ Donation awareness talk will also be delivered to the 1st year Medical students to sensitise them about this very important concept.

In the afternoon, an inter-collegiate competition for social work students on street theatre, mime, poster design and collage has been organised. This is to encourage students to come up with innovative and creative ideas to take the message of organ donation into the community.

For the valedictory function and prize distribution in the evening, noted actor and orator, Thiru. R. Sivakumar, will be present to share his thoughts on the noble cause of organ donation with the students.

MOHAN Foundation is a voluntary, non-profit organization based in Chennai and Hyderabad. It was founded on 12th January, 1997 to popularise the cause of organ donation amongst the general masses. MOHAN Foundation has branches in Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad also. The word MOHAN is an acronym for "Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network".

The Foundation has so far distributed over 400,000 organ donor cards and the Priceless Gift brochure (Organ Donation information). The Foundation also runs a support group for patients and their relatives who have undergone kidney transplantation and the ones who have kidney failure. MOHAN Foundation is committed to working for the Public, Patients and Physicians and spreading the message of organ donation.
