Organ Donation Awareness at SIPCOT Housing Board, Ranipet

  • New Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB), is located on Madras Bombay Trunk Road (NH 40), in the SIPCOT Region of Ranipet and very adjacent to new District Collector Office. On February 22, 2023, an awareness session was organized to the residents of New TNHB, Ranipet and 14 woben participated. The audience were of mixed type comprising of teacher, beautician, Bio tech graduate and homemakers.

     

    Mr Ganesh C, Marketing Coordinator, explained to concept of organ donation & transplantation, brain death, how to register  for an organ through  the government, safeguarding from scams, myths on organ donation and effective usage of Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100. Green ribbons and information pamphlets were distributed. The session was interactive and many interesting questions as below were put forth:

    1. If a person meets  with  an accident and  is admitted in ICU with damaged organ, how will the organ be allocated by the government?
    2. If I donate to anyone,   what would I do if my family member needs one in future?
    3. Can body be donated after suicide? 
    4. If a person in other part of India has failed organ, can they get a transplant in South India?
    5. Can a person live with only one functioning lung? 
    6. If a hospital doesn’t have license and treating a patient with organ failure and in his final stage sending off the patient to another hospital stating they don’t have facility to treat any further, can legal action be taken on them?
    7. Now that stem cells are been used for treating people, can it be used to genetically grow organs in labs to over come the requirement of organ needs?
    8. Can I register in Tamilnadu as donor and if I die (brain death) in any other state, will my organs be donate in the state I die or will I be brought back to TN and donation will happen here?

     

    The audience was eager to acquire knowledge and the also requested us to conduct another session at their auditorium, where they promised to pull in all the residents together and have a bigger event. 

     

    MOHAN Foundation thanks the residents and Ms Archana for helping in mobilizing the event. 8 women took donor card to pledge as a donor and few picked up helpline stickers to be put up on their door steps and vehicles.
