On December 14, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an organ donation awareness talk to the parishioners of Holy Family Church, Alto Porvorim, Goa.
Mr. Gabriel shared his personal connection to the cause, explaining that he was inspired to promote organ donation after a family member received an organ transplant six years ago. He also explained how organ allocation is managed by the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Goa, and discussed the roles of the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) and the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira covered key aspects of organ and tissue donation, including:
• Organs and tissues that can be donated in cases of circulatory death and brain stem death
• The medical definition and implications of brain stem death
• The differences between coma and brain stem death
• The process of pledging to become an organ donor
Mr. Gabriel emphasised the importance of informing family members about one’s decision to donate, as family consent is a critical step in the donation process. The session concluded with Mr. Gabriel thanking Fr. Adolfo Alvares, Parish Priest, and Fr. Boris Dias, Assistant Parish Priest, for facilitating the session and supporting the cause of organ donation.
Around 20 participants attended the session, during which FAQ flyers were distributed to all attendees, and eight participants pledged to donate their organs.
