MOHAN Foundation invited to the inauguration of Transplant Coordination Course in Nagpur

  • The Tirpude College of Social Work, Nagpur planned to conduct Certificate Course on Organ Donation and a Transplant Coordination for its students. The inauguration ceremony was held on May 8, 2023.  Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director MOHAN Foundation Nagpur was the chief guest. 

    The course coordinator Dr. Roshan Gajbe, ZTCC Nagpur Coordinator Mrs. Veena Wathore and Transplant Coordinator Mr. Dinesh Mandape was present at the inauguration. The Principal of the college and the Course Director, Dr. Swati Dharmadhakari presided as the Chairperson of the program. Dr. Dewang Chaya, Organ Donation Ambassador was the resource person for the talk on Concepts of Organ Donation.

    The course was specially designed for students of social work, public health, psychology & nursing. In his talk  on organ donation, Dr. Dewang Chaya spoke on the following topics

    • What is organ donation?
    • Brain death, coma and natural death
    • Conditions for donation of organs and tissues
    • Voluntary body donation and eye donation
    • Legal and ethical implications of organ donation
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994
    • Role of NOTTO, ROTO, SOTTO, ZTCC, and the MOHAN Foundation in organ donation
    • Historical aspect of organ donation.

    Questions asked by participants:

    • What are the key elements of grief counselling?
    • Legal aspect of organ donation
    • Who declares brain death? 

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede helped in clarifying all doubts and requested the participants to visit MOHAN Foundation's website and helpline number for any information on organ donation or for online pledging of organs.  About 60 participants attended this inaugural session & 15 of them signed a consent form for organ donation.
