MOHAN Foundation at the Organ Donation Masterclass held in Bengaluru

  • The 9th Edition of Organ Donation Masterclass was hosted by the Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSI), with the support of Medtronic, on October 13 & 14, 2023, at the MS Ramaiah Advanced Learning Centre in Bengaluru. The objective of the masterclass was to provide training to aspiring transplant surgeons, equipping them with techniques and insights for safe organ recovery and transplant procedures. The course curriculum included optimal organ retrieval, perfusion, and preservation in ensuring the quality of organs for transplantation and their impact on both short-term and long-term graft success. Additionally, hands-on lab sessions were held, focusing on abdominal organ retrieval and implantation techniques. There were 23 surgeons from different parts of the country participated in this educational event.

    The faculty for the Masterclass included Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee and Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Associate Director - Courses from MOHAN Foundation. Dr. Sunil Shoff spoke on ‘Kidney alone retrieval - Challenges and approach’. In her presentation titled ‘Breaking bad news & Approaching families for organ donation,’ Ms. Suriyamoorthi covered the essentials of breaking bad news and the process. In addition, she addressed key factors related to approaching families for organ donation, including preparing families for the conversation, ensuring their understanding and acceptance of loss, and engaging in discussions about donation.
