CNE on Deceased Donor Multi Organ Transplantation Programme at SAT Hospital, Trivandrum

  • On 11th December, 2013 an awareness program on Deceased Donor Multy Organ Transplantation  (DDMOTP) programme was organized by nursing staffs from Sree Avittom Thirunnal Hospital,(SAT) Trivandrum as part of their Continuous Nursing Education. They invited Mrithasanjeevani to conduct the programme. The program started with the welcome speech delivered by Mrs. Prakashini, Nursing Superintendent, SAT Hospital.

     

    Ms. Saranya, trainee transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, gave an introduction about Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS). Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Trivandrum, conducted the session. In his presentation he covered the following topics:

    1. Importance of organ donation
    2. Transplantation of Human Organ (THO) Act 1994
    3. Myths on organ donation
    4. Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    5. Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    6. Organs that can be donated in cardiac death and drain death
    7. Eye donation and blood donation
    8. Preservation time of organs
    9. Importance of Donor card
    10. KNOS website
    11. Role of nurses in Early identification of  brain death and certification

     

    60 staff nurses and 2 nursing superintends participated in the session.  All of them picked a donor card to pledge their organs. The session ended with vote of thanks rendered by Mrs. Silin Thomas, Nursing Superintendent, SAT hospital.
