CME on organ donation at Metro Hospital, Faridabad

  • On 12th September, 2014 a CME on organ donation was held at Metro Hospital, Faridabad. The CME was organized by the combined efforts of Dr. Kewal Krishan, Senior Consultant-CTVS, Max Hospital, Saket and Dr. S. S. Bansal, Managing Director, Metro Hospital.

     

    Metro Hospital, Faridabad is a 200 bedded multi specialty hospital and was started in the year 2002 as a heart institute. In less than a decade it has grown into a renowned multi specialty hospital providing world class health care at an affordable cost. Providing a unique amalgamation of world class high technology treatment, Metro Hospital has grown steadily providing the best heath care services to numerous ailing patients. The hospitals mission is to provide all healthcare solutions under one roof.

     

    The CME was the second in line, the first having being conducted at the Asian Institute of Medical Science at Faridabad to gather support and cooperation of the medical fraternity for the success of cardiac transplantation in the country and to promote awareness about organ donation.

     

    Dr. Kewal Krishan was the first speaker who spoke about the status of cardiac transplantation in the country and the various devices and surgeries related to cardiac transplants. He also stressed on the need to spread awareness on organ donation in the country, so that more and more people are sensitized on this very important but often underplayed out area. In the end he emphasized on the role of NGO's like MOHAN Foundation in creating awareness on deceased organ donation in the country, conducting sensitization sessions for health care professional, working as a support group for patients, physicians and public and creating a team of dedicated transplant coordinators by imparting training to them.

     

    The next session was taken by Ms. Pallavi Kumar who stressed on the need for fine synchronization between the government and various hospitals to set systems in place for facilitating successful deceased organ donation program and the need for awareness so that more people would come forward as donors. She also spoke about brain death, THO Act 1994 and also showed a short clip on brain death for clearing concepts in the minds of all there present.

     

    The session was attended by 60 doctors and 30 donors cards were picked up.
