Seminar on Organ Donation, Transplant Coordination & Grief Counselling at Hindu College, Chennai

  • A two-member team from MOHAN Foundation visited the Department of Social Work in Hindu College on Monday, 8th August 2011. The team was invited to conduct a session on Organ Donation, Transplant coordination and Grief Counselling. The topics covered in the session included the concept of brain death certification, organ donation, role of a transplant coordinator in organ donation, the stages of grief, and the importance of grief counselling. An update on the deceased organ donation and transplantation programme in Tamil Nadu was also given. In addition, a public awareness video on organ donation was played for the audience.         

    Mr.Lyju Kuruvilla, Marketing manager of MOHAN Foundation spoke about the upcoming one year Diploma in Transplant Coordinators’ Training & Grief Counselling, which is being offered by the MOHAN Foundation-IGNOU Community College under the aegis of the Indira Gandhi National Open University Community College scheme.

    This session saw a gathering of 55 social work students (from both first and second year) along with four staff members. All of them picked up a donor card and pledged their support for organ donation.
