On the
eve of Organ Donation Day 2011 in India, Dadhichi Mission in association with R. D. Gardi Medical
College organized an event on November
28th at Ujjain to spread awareness of
organ donation among the people of India. The event marked the first-time celebration
of Organ donation day in Central India. In the
last 10 years in Ujjain, only 80 people have
filled up the consent form for body donation of which the R.D. Gardi Medical College
has received 7 bodies.
The
National Organ donation day event hosted a blood donation camp, organ and body
donor registration camp and a mass awareness rally. The audience were informed of the basic
principles of organ donation and the queries of public were answered by
representatives of Dadhichi Angdaan Dehdaan Samiti and the medical college.
Mr.
Ashok Jain, a member of Dadhichi Mission, informed that more than 82 donors
registered and pledged for organ and body donation in two hours and more than
90 units of blood were donated on this unique event. This is possibly a record in itself. Mr.
Maheshchandra of Dadhichi Mission informed that Mr. B.P. Lohia along with 8
members of his family pledged their organs on this occasion. Many people
registered themselves for eye donation. Mr. Babulal Jain, Vice President,
Yojana Aayog, Madhya Pradesh set an inspiring example by signing the donor
form. Mr. N.K. Vyas was appreciated for establishing such a rare kind of
organization in favour of life saving causes and for bringing Dadhichi Mission
to Ujjain.
Dr.
Manish Patil, H.O.D., Anatomy, R. D. Gardi Medical college coordinated the
event, Ms. Bhawna, Mr. Ritesh of Dadhichi Mission and the enthusiastic students
educated people about the importance of body and organ donation. Dr. Jitendra
Gupta, Dr. Sangeeta Babu, Dr. Rajeev Ranjan, Dr. Amit Jain answered questions,
cleared doubts and removed misconceptions from the people and inspired them to
at least think over the concept of organ and body donation. Members of Ujjain
Yoga Life also participated in the rally displaying creative slogans.
Mr.
Nand Kishore Vyas informed that Dadhichi Mission is the only organization from
Central India that has been invited by the Directorate General of Health
Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and World
Health Organization to participate in the celebration of 2nd
National Organ Donation Day and represent their region at the All India
Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi on 28th November. Mr.
Rupesh Joshi, (Vice-Chairman), Mr. Dharmender Mishra, (Coordinator) & Mrs.
Archana (convener) represent Dadhichi Mission at the national event comprising
of a scientific meeting on organ donation and transplantation and its related
issues attended by various experts in the field.
The
response from the public for the Organ donation day event organized by Dadhichi
Mission in association with R.
D. Gardi
Medical College
was very encouraging. Participants demanded an advanced organ transplantation
facility for this region. There is a
huge gap between the demand and supply of organs for transplantation in India. It
remains to be seen if hospitals in Indore
take the cue from Dadhichi Mission’s organ donation awareness initiative and
mobilize the Deceased donation program seriously.
