Organ Donation Pledge by Senior Citizens and Youth

Updated on Wednesday, September 12, 2012
  • The Thiruvenkada Nagar Residence Welfare Association invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver a talk on “Organ Donation”. The association advertised the programme in Ambattur Talkies a week before.  The awareness talk was held on 9th September 2012, 5.00 pm at Thiruvenkada Nagar, Ambattur. A total of 60 members participated the programme at Thiruvenkada Nagar.  The participants were from Moggapair, Parrys & surrounding areas.  The talk was presided by Ms.Sunanda, Mr.Suresh and few participants.

Transplant Coordinator Ms. Veena made a presentation on organ donation, eye donation & whole body donation. The procedures followed in each donation were clearly explained to the participants.  The talk generated a lively discussion.

Senior citizens were very keen in donating their body for research purpose; two of the senior citizens have already written a will of donating their body after death. Three of the participants have coordinated eye donations earlier; two regular blood donors did share their experience about saving lives. A participant suggested that organizations or clubs in specific areas need to take steps in motivating the organ and tissue donation process because the family members will be grieving and they might forget to take any action for donation.

The members who attended the session would like to organize similar programmes at their colony, work place and few would like to volunteer for this noble cause. At the end of the session all participants picked up donors cards and pledged to donate their organs and tissues after death. They also carried additional cards for their family members, a total of 73 donors cards were distributed.
