Organ Donation Awareness for Students of Dayanand Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya

  • On 13th January 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs. Babita Thool, the NSS in- charge of Dayanand Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya located in Jatipatkha, Nagpur. Mr. Bulu Behera - Transplant Coordinator, Nagpur, was invited to address the students on the subject of organ donation and transplantation. The programme was organized in the Indira Nagar area of Nagpur.

    Mrs. Babita Thool introduced the speaker and welcomed the audience. The programme began around 10.30 am and around 40 students were present. Mr. Behera, in his talk, introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained the organ and tissue donation concepts.

    Mr. Behera presented in detail, a wide range of topics, including the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, listing the offences and penalties related to malpractices in organ donation.

    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • Natural death and brain death
    • Brain death and coma
    • Age criteria to donate organ
    • What is the time period to donate organ?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation
    • How to register as an organ donor?
    • What is the role of hospitals in organ donation?

     

    Mr. Bulu Behera clarified the doubts participants had.10 participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards, while a few others chose to register online. MOHAN Foundation is thankful for the opportunity.
