Updated on Friday, July 23, 2021
  • Rtn. Srinivasamurthy, Director of Community Service of the Rotary Bangalore Abilities, invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an organ donation awareness workshop for its members on 11th July, 2021. The virtual session in the evening was attended by 36 members including the President of the Club, Rtn. Aravinda Aralaguppe. This Bengaluru Chapter in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, has been actively campaigning for the cause.

Mrs. Jaya Jairam (Project Manager, Mumbai) and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS (Project Manager, Bengaluru) represented MOHAN Foundation.

Rtn. Srinivasamurthy began the session with a welcome address, followed by
Rtn. Aravinda talking about the importance of spreading awareness about this subject. Mrs. Jaya Jairam then began by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its activities. It was followed by the importance and need for donation, when and who can become donors and concepts of brain stem death and circulatory death. She also discussed a few common myths that prevailed in the minds of the public, that invariably held them back from supporting the cause of organ donation.

Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS went on to share an example of a case pertaining to Dharwad, in which organ donation had been recently facilitated by the MOHAN Foundation team. The importance of having a grief counselor to speak to the family was highlighted through this case. She also touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card.

Towards the end of the session, the following queries from the audience were answered:

    • Does my age/fitness level disqualify me from being a donor?
    • What is the process for living donation and what organs can be donated by a live donor?
    • Are there any provisional benefits offered by the government for being a conditional donor?
    • Organ donation and spiritual beliefs
    • Green Corridor (whether it is applicable for all the states or only Karnataka)

MOHAN Foundation is grateful to the Rotary Club Abilities Bengaluru for choosing to support this life-saving cause.
