Organ Donation Awareness at Clarke School for Deaf

  • On 20th April 2015 MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. P. Leelavathy Founder, Clarke School for Deaf to conduct an interactive session on organ donation for PTA (Patents Teachers Association) meeting at the school premises. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Manager and Ms. Sunitha Transplant Coordinators participated in the programme. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde briefed the gathering about the activities of MOHAN Foundation and also mentioned about Organ Donation Toll Free Number.

    Ms. Sunitha A.T. explained the concept of organ donation. In her presentation she spoke about the following topics:

     

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Who can be a donor
    • What is brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • What are the organs and tissues that can be donated after brain death
    • Importance of signing a donor card

     

    Totally 30 parents and 5 teachers participated in the session and all of them were given an information brochure. 6 parents pledged their organs by signing the donor card. The Principal Ms. Karnad thanked the staff of MOHAN Foundation and said that the decision to donate is a very personal one and the parents may need to think about it.
