  • On February 2, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, spoke to the students from V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, Panjim Goa. The event was organised by the MOG Foundation in association with the N.S.S. Unit of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law.

Gabriel began the presentation by introducing himself and the MOHAN Foundation. He shared with the audience his reasons for joining the Foundation and promoting the cause.

He described the importance of organ donation, the various organs that can be donated, the organs that can be donated by both living and brain-dead individuals, and the definition of brain stem death. He also spoke on the types of death—circulatory death and brain death—which organs or tissues can be donated in cardiac death or brain death, which were the approved transplant hospitals in Goa and the organs they transplant, the demand and supply of organs, and whole-body donation.

All these topics were presented via PowerPoint to the students.

He also described the various organ donation pledge options. He displayed the QR code and Form 2 of the driving licence, where once the box was ticked, the driving licence will indicate that the holder has pledged to be an organ donor. He emphasised that it was most important to inform one's family or next-of-kin about their desire to donate organs, as in India, an opt-in policy is followed where the family or next-of-kin’s consent is required to proceed with the donation.

A brief video on what brain death is was shown to the participants.

Gabriel thanked Dr. Shaber Ali G. (Principal of V.M.S.C.L.), Ms. Priscilla Fernandes (N.S.S.-P.O.), Mr. Roshan Mathais from MOG Foundation, and all the students for having MOHAN Foundation conduct this awareness talk.

Close to 50 individuals attended the session, and six pledged to donate their organs
