“Organ Donation Awareness Campaign” by Rotary Club, Rohtak with SOTTO Haryana & MOHAN Foundation at Scholars Rosary Senior Secondary School, Rohtak

  • On July 22, 2023, the Rotary Club of Rohtak invited Soto Haryana and MOHAN Foundation to participate in an organ donation awareness campaign at Scholars Rosary Senior Secondary School in Rohtak.

     

    Dr. Jeetender Gupta, who was overseeing the campaign, stated that its goals were to raise awareness, dispel myths, and encourage organ donation registration.

     

    Mr. Ravi Gugnani, a nominee for district governor, was the program's chief guest. The event began with the lamp lighting ceremony.

     

    Mr. Markanday Ahuja, president of the Rotary Club of Rohtak, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Sukhbir Singh, Nodal Officer, SOTTO Haryana, Ms. Deepti Kumari, Transplant Coordinator of the SOTTO Haryana team, and Ms. Renu Kumari, Project Leader of the MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Dr. Sukhbir Singh briefed the audience on the current state of organ donation and the expanding demand for organ transplants because of the increase in organ failure.

     

    Ms. Deepti Kumari then covered various topics in her presentation, including who can donate organs, types of organ donation (living and deceased), organs and tissues that can be donated, types of death, time factors for organ retrieval and transplant, the role of NOTTO, ROTTO, and SOTTO in organ donation, eye donation, and organ donation myths and facts.

     

    Ms. Renu Kumari emphasised the legal framework of organ donation, the identification and declaration of brain stem death, the distinction between coma and brain stem death, the process to pledge for organ donation by filling out the organ donation Form 7 (For Organ and Tissue Pledging), and the importance of the donor card.

     

    The group was inspired and motivated to support the cause of organ donation.

    Mr. Ahuja commended the SOTTO Haryana and MOHAN Foundation teams for sharing their expertise to help launch this awareness campaign. He stated that they have learned a multitude of new facts about organ donation, as well as many others.

    Approximately 350 members attended the meeting.
