Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at a Temple in Nagpur

  • On 12th January 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited to speak on organ donation and transplantation at Shri Laxmi Narayana Shiv Mandir in Nandanvan, Nagpur. Dr. Shantidas Lunge, doctor at the Ayurvedic Government Medical College, Nagpur organized the event and Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator from the Foundation was the speaker.

    Dr. Lunge delivered the welcome address and introduced Mr. Behera to the audience. The program began by 1 PM and around 400 participants were present. Mr. Bulu Behera, in his talk, introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained about organ and tissue donation.

    Mr. Behera presented in detail, a wide range of topics, including the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, listing the offences and penalties related to malpractices in organ donation.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • What is organ failure and its causes?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • Natural death and brain death
    • Brain death and coma
    • Age criteria to donate organ
    • What is the time period to donate organ?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation
    • How to register as an organ donor?
    • What is the role of hospitals in organ donation?

     

    All their doubts were clarified by Mr. Bulu Behera. 10 participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards.
