Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Euro School, Thane

  • On 30th November 2016, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai conducted an awareness session for the teachers at Euro School, Thane.

    Two sessions were conducted. First session was for the Pre-Primary teachers and the Second was for the Primary and Secondary teachers of Euro School.

    Mrs. Jaya Jairam began the session explaining on what is Organ Donation Why? Who and When can Organs be donated? Then  Mrs Jaya Jairam spoke on the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation mainly focusing on the need for organs, India’s organ donation rate, brain stem death, how to diagnose brain stem death and cardiac death, certify and who can certify, cornea donation, skin donation, cultural and religious barriers, THO Act and myths related to organ donation.

    The teachers were informed about who all can become organ donors and how and what all organs they can donate in living as well as Deceased organ donation. The talk also focused on the low organ donation rate of our country (0.50 pmp) which is even less than 1 person per million of our population. Myths related to organ donation were also clarified.

    About 80 teachers attended the program and donor cards and informative brochures were distributed.
