  • On 2nd December, 2016, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mrs. Malati Niranjan (Manager - Organization Development) to conduct Organ Donation awareness on the eve of International Day of Persons with disabilities.

Such awareness programs were being conducted at all their offices and branches throughout India.

Two sessions were held in their Mumbai offices.  The first session was held at the Head office of Mumbai at Goregaon and second session at the regional office at Andheri.

Mrs. Jaya Jairam started the sessions with introducing MOHAN Foundation and their objectives and activities. She then explained what Organ Donation was,  why it was necessary and how it could be done.

She briefly explained the difference between Cardiac Death and Brain Stem Death. The organs and tissues that can be donated in case of Cardiac Death and Brain Stem Death was discussed. She spoke about Living organ donation and how a live organ donor can lead a normal life thereafter.

She further spoke about the demand - supply gap of organs in our country and the dire need to donate organs. The talk also focused on the low organ donation rate of our country (0.50 pmp). She also touched upon the Laws & Agencies involved in organ donation in Maharashtra. Barriers and Myths related Organ Donation were clarified. The views of some spiritual leaders endorsing Organ Donation were also covered.

The employees actively participated with a number of questions being asked and satisfactorily answered. Lastly the employees were shown a 2 minute video on how One Donor saved Many Lives and that death is not the end.

Total 75 employees attended the session from both the offices, out of which 26 pledged to be an organ donor and others were given MF informative brochures.

We wish to convey our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Malati Niranjan for taking up Organ donation as a focussed initiative pan India and thus furthering the cause. We also wish to thank Mr. Nitin Cherian from the Branch office.
