The record was to have the maximum number of people pledging for organs within one hour.

Before the event sensitization about organ donation was undertaken for over a week in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation staff.  Mr. Jeyabal, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Anand, Transplant coordinators visited many colleges and delivered talks about organ donation and issues related to it. This sensitization was done to empower the youngsters about organ donation and discus the issues with their parents and friends before taking the pledge for the record.

The programme started at nine in the morning. College students from more than ten different colleges registered for the event. Over 4000 students assembled for the pledge on the grounds of Pallavan College of Engineering. They were welcomed and a Green Ribbon (Ribbon for Organ donation) was pinned to their shirts as a symbol of support. Pledge forms were given to all the students in the college ground. The participants had to fill in the forms and keep them ready.

There were 30 counters for registering as an organ donor.  Each counter had three people – one to check the form, another to bar code the form and scan it and third to hand over the donor card.  All the activities of the registration desk were video- graphed. The pledge event started at 11.00 am sharp and all counters were closed at 12 noon.  On a rough estimate more than 4500 people picked their donor card and gave the pledge form...

During the event music, entertainment and snacks were provided to all the participants. Information on organ donation was further reinforced and doubts if any were cleared.  During the registration time MF Team moved among the students and also motivated them to pledge their organs. At the end when the participants were dispersing, information brochures, bike stickers and bus stickers with toll free organ donation help line numbers were given to the students by MOHAN Foundation team.

The event was conceptualized and organized by the Rotarians and Rotaractors of Chennai and Kancheepuram.  The tremendous efforts of Ms. Mythili, Mr. Ramkumar Raju A. and Ms. Theja Lakshmi have to be appreciated.  MOHAN Foundation was the knowledge partner for this event that may establish a new pledge record for the Guinness Book of Records.
