A new initiative on Organ Donation by ‘Rajapalayam 360’ –a student’s group

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by members of Rajapalayam 360 to give a talk on Organ Donation to their members. This initiative was taken by Mr. Srinivasan, Ajay Ravichandran, Shri Ram, Jeyaprakash, Raj Prakash, Shanjay, Ram Shankar, Vinoth, Bathri Narayanan. They event was organized on 29.05.2015, at Rajapalayam Chamber of Commerce.

     

    Rajapalayam 360 is a group of college student as a support system for social causes and help in the coordination of eye donation.  Ms. K.  Gieetha and Ms.  A. T. Sunitha Transplant Coordinators MOHAN Foundation as well as Dr, Santhi Lal were the resource persons for the program. 

     

    Mr. Srinivasan welcomed the speakers as well as the audience. Dr. Lal gave an overview about organ donation. Ms. Gieetha addressed the gathering and spoke about the concepts of Brain Death and Organ Donation. She spoke on following topics:

    • Importance and need of organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    • Organs and tissues  that can be donated in cardiac death and brain death
    • Eye donation
    • Importance of Donor card, helpline number and website
    • Transplant Coordinator Training Programme

     Ms.Sunitha interacted with group and cleared their doubts.

     

    A group of students gave a modern dance performance choreographed by a member - Mr. Ajay Ravichandran. It was a very touching moment to see them perform with their eye shut with a black ribbon.

    Nearly 70 members attended the session and 55 members took Donor cards. The entire next week the campaign for registering as donors will continue at Venus Net Computer Centre, Rajapalayam.
