Mr. Pramod Mahajan a 67 year old farmer, who donated one of his kidneys to an army jawan of his village, has embarked upon a solo bike tour across the length and breadth of our country to spread the message of organ donation. His 100-day mission began on 21st October 2018 from Shaniwar Wada, Pune and will end by 25th January 2019 covering 10000-15000 kilometres.
Mr. Mahajan was in Chennai from 26 to 28 Dec 2018 and MOHAN Foundation hosted him. During his layover in Chennai he was invited to address the members of Young Indians, a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) initiative. Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of CII, formed in 2002 as a pan-India platform for young Indians to realize the dream of a developed nation. Through its programs and initiatives, it reaches out to millions of youth across the country. Yi holds more than 2500 activities each year under the pillars of Youth Leadership, Nation Building and Thought Leadership, and connects with 14000+ students through its institutional network, ‘Yuva’.
‘Gift an Organ’ is an important initiative under Yi’s nation building pillar. Yi has been spreading awareness and urging people to pledge their organs. They wanted to understand Mr. Mahajan’s experience, challenges he has been facing and wanted his expertise on way forward for Yi’s campaigns. Mr. Aditya Roongta, Co-Chair, Yi - Chennai Chapter, Mr. Krishna Kumar Nathani and Mr. Konda Reddy from the Gift an Organ program were present to honour Mr. Mahajan. Mr. Mahajan was accompanied by Ms. Ishwarya Thyagarajan (Helpline Executive), Ms. S V Ajitha and Ms. J Keerthana (Interns from MMM College of Health Sciences) of Mohan Foundation. A few students from Jeppiar College of Engineering, also Yi - Gift an Organ members were present as well.
Mr. Mahajan interacted with the group very enthusiastically sharing his vast experiences and how groups like Yi and organisations like MOHAN Foundation could contribute to the cause. Ms Ishwarya spoke briefly about myths, facts and statistics related to organ donation and activities of MOHAN Foundation.
Mr. Mahajan who had already been honoured by the Yi Hyderabad chapter was felicitated by Mr. Roongta and others. MOHAN Foundation salutes Mr. Mahajan and appreciates the commitment of Yi to the organ donation cause.
