  • On 23rd January 2015, Fishermans’ Government Higher Secondary School, Valliyathura, Trivandrum invited MOHAN Foundation to address their students. The XII standard students were present to learn about organ donation.  This programme was referred by KNOS.

The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Arun, Principal, Fishermans’ Government Higher Secondary School. Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh spoke about the Concepts of Organ Donation. The following topics were covered during the talk:

    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of Donor card and consent from the family
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme
    • Helpline Number  and website as source of information

The students had done a survey on Organ Donation in the Valliyathura village. They presented the results. 50 families was the sample size. Among the 50 families all were aware of Organ Donation but none were interested to pledge their organs. So it was decided that MOHAN Foundation will do conduct a small awareness session for the community in the month of February. Nearly 25 students and 4 teachers attended the session, all students promised to sign the donor card when they are 18.
