Organ Donation Concepts explained to the staff of Laboratory Services & Transfusion Medicine at PIMS Hospital

  • On 18th November, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation and transplantation was organized at Laboratory Services & Transfusion Medicine at PIMS Hospital, Puducherry. The session was conducted by Mr. Ananth. R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation  deputed to Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital, Puducherry. This programme was coordinated by Dr. Udit B. Das, Medical Superintendent and Dr. George Kurian, HoD Gastro Enterology at PIMS Hospital.

     

    In his presentation, Mr. Ananth covered the following topics: types of donors Live donation (related & unrelated, swap), Natural death, Brain death; difference between natural death and brain death; difference between brain stem death and coma; organs that can be donated, the number of hours the various organs can be preserved before transplantation, and the importance of the donor card, Role of Transplant Coordinator and MOHAN Foundation Activities.

     

    There were a total of 8 technicians and 4 staff who participated in the sessions. All of them picked up a donor card and brochures.
