Organ Donation Awareness at a Blood Donation Camp in Kithaganur

  • Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S received a call from Mr. Charan Kumar to conduct an awareness session on organ donation at a blood donation camp organised in Kithaganur, Bengaluru for the public during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. He had earlier attended an awareness session organized by MOHAN Foundation and decided that he would organise one in his locality, along with a blood donation camp.

    At his request Mrs. Ranjini, Project Manager and Mr. Marulappa L N, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation conducted an interactive session and set up an all-day help desk on 01st December 2021 at Kithaganur. Around 78 members attended the session and many more participating in the celebrations, visited the help desk.

    Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation - its mission and vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedure of deceased and living organ donations. She then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well.

    Mr. Charan Kumar, impressed by the work of MOHAN Foundation, expressed his wish to conduct more events in with collaboration with the Foundation in the future.

    Around 36 people signed up as organ donors during the event. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Charan Kumar for the opportunity.
