Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Annai Violet Matriculation Higher Secondary School, TOI Campaign

  • MOHAN foundation in association with the Times of India (TOI) was invited by the Annai Violet Matriculation Higher Secondary School located at Chitlapakkam, Chennai for the purpose providing awareness on Organ Donation among the students of 9th and 10th standard. Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar Helpline executive of MOHAN foundation and Mr. Amal Antony (Intern student of Madras Medical Mission) were the resource persons. The session was held on the school premises o 24th August at 2:30 PM and 80 students attended the session.

    The session started by issuing the green ribbons and information brochures to the students. Mr. Siva Shankar started the session on the Concept of Organ Donation, what are the organs that could be donated in cases of cardiac and brain death. Later he focused upon the steps involved in organ transplantation as well as the time required for the retrieval of organs during the stage of brain death. The session also covered the legal aspects of organ donation.

    It was an interactive session. Numerous queries were raised by the students. Mr. Siva Shankar took initiative in clearing the queries. The students of the institution were happy that they were able to participate in the program, get new sources of information on Organ Donation and clarify their queries. At the end of the session photos were taken along with the students.
