Organ Donation Awareness Seminar cum Workshop at Rotary Club Juhu

  • On 14th July 2019, Rotary Club of Bombay West invited Mohan Foundation to conduct an Organ Donation Awareness Seminar cum Workshop at the district level. Rotary Club of Bombay West organized this Workshop for Rotarians of District 3141 as well as for members from the neighbourhood community.

    The workshop started at 10 AM in the morning with a welcome note delivered by Mr Jhankar Gadkari, Mr Harminder Phateja, Dr Shivaramakrishnan and other members heading about 14 zones of Rotary Club.

    Mrs. Jaya Jairam began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and activities. She then familiarized Rotarians about the workshop they were going to attend and discussed what is expected of the participants when working for this cause. She also informed about the ways in which Rotarians can collaborate to support the noble cause of organ donation.

    She explained the concepts of organ and tissue donation, types of death viz. cardiac and brain death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated on the procedure for bone donation, which was a new topic for the participants. She also explained to the group how donation of skin and eyes can happen even at the residence after someone’s demise. Organ donation that can happen following brain death and the number of lives that can be saved was explained using examples of successful transplant stories, articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the crowd.

    As the participants became aware of the whole process of organ donation, Dr Jimmy Gupta proceeded with the activity of making the participants write a thank you letter to donor families from the perspective of recipients. Few Rotarians participated in this activity and wrote heart touching letters which were read later.

    Mrs Jaya Jairam then addressed the common myths about organ donation the public has and how can they be debunked by illustrating the facts. She also shared her real life story as a kidney recipient which inspired the crowd a lot. Thereafter she shared with audience how they could pledge their organs and also how important it was to share their wish with their loved ones.

    Over 125 people participated in the Workshop with District Governor Rtn Harjit Singh Talwar as Chief Guest. Among the experts who made presentations at the workshop were Dr Sunil Keswani, Dr Queresh Maskati and Dr Girish Trivedi supporters of the cause. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to all the dignitaries of Rotary Club of Bombay West for the opportunity to conduct the workshop and spread the message of organ donation.
