Organ Donation Awareness Campaign – An initiative by Shell India Markets Pvt. Ltd.

  • Shell India Markets Private Limited, Chennai is organising a week long awareness campaign for organ donation across its 9 fuel distribution outlets in the city starting from 15th August, 2013. The specific locations where the campaign will be held are: Vadapalani, Porur, Pallikaranai, Poonamallee Town, Padi, Chrompet, Ekkattuthangal, Tambaram, Velachery Main Road and Zamin Pallavaram Village- Kancheepuram District.

     

    Before launching the campaign, the company wanted to educate its dealers and employees who will in turn spread the message amongst their customers. The participants’ visited the MOHAN Foundation office in Kilpauk on 12th August, 2013. The session was conducted by Ms. Sujatha Niranjan, Manager Information Systems, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai. There were a total of 12 participants including the Territory Manager for Tamil Nadu, fuel dealers and the managers/administrators of the respective centres.

     

    The session aimed at sensitising the participants about the importance of organ donation, about brain death, about solid organ donation, about organ allocation and about the importance of consent by family for donation to take place. Ms. Niranjan also spoke about the donor card. Finally; a video on brain death and a recipient narrating a firsthand experience were screened.

     

    All the participants pledged their organs by signing the donor card. Further; they promised to educate their team in order for them to educate the customers who visit their centres. The Foundation also provided them with information brochures and donor cards that can be distributed during the campaign.
