MOHAN Foundation conducts a panel discussion on Organ donation at MOP Vaishnav College for Women

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct a Panel Discussion  on Organ Donation  at the MOP Vaishnav College for Women. The event a part of the MA Media Management Program, was held on Dec 22, 2022 in the college auditorium. Around 450 students from five  city colleges attended the program. TRANSTAN set up an information desk and registration counter. 

    The college had invited eminent and experienced experts - 

    Ms R. Sujatha, Deputy Editor, The Hindu, Mr R. Sekar, IPS, Ex DGP TN Police, Ms Shabnum Bano and Advocate, Dr J Amalorpavanathan, Head Transplant Process, MGM Hospital and Ex member Secretary, TRANSTAN.  The discussion was moderated by Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation. 

    The event started with a welcome speech and felicitation of the guests by Dr Susan Sridhar, Assoc Professor and Head, Department of Media Studies. Dr Hemal then conducted the proceedings on specific topics of role of police, need for engaging the media in complete reporting of the donation and transplantation,  improvement in the law and the  work of the hidden foot soldiers  of organ donation - transplant coordinators. The panelist elaborated on the topics with stories and their comments.  

    It was an engaging  and open discussion. It brought out the complexity of the organ donation,  basic altruistic nature of people and the need to save lives.  All the panelist asked the students to support the cause and not fall prey to the scams that are circulating in the social media. Dr Hemal Kanvinde thanked the Management of the college and Department of Media Studies  for  choosing Organ Donation as a Public Relations Program and the panelists for their time and guidance.  

    After this discussion, a short animation explaining the process of organ donation was played, followed by a video by a recipient relating her story.  The session ended with a poem in Tamil  based on organ donation and a vote of thanks by a student.
