On the occasion of the World NGO Day which is celebrated on 27th of February every year, the Department of Social Work of Thiruthangal Nadar College in Selaivayal, Chennai organised an event on 26th February in their campus. NGOs around the city had been invited to showcase their work and products crafted by them. Mr. Vasantha Jayaseelan, Head of the Social Work Department had also invited MOHAN Foundation to put up a stall to spread awareness about organ donation on this occasion.
Mr. Naveen Antony and Mr. Umar Nath, students of Medical Sociology at MMM College of Health Sciences, presently interning with the Foundation were deputed for this task, accompanied by Ishwarya Thyagarajan. Banners and standees bearing messages of organ donation, information brochures and donor cards were placed in the stall. Green ribbons were distributed to stall visitors who were students and faculty from the various other departments of the institute. 51 people including teachers and students registered as organ donors.
A total of 10 NGOs, including MOHAN Foundation participated in this event. Representatives from Golden Butterflies, The Candles, Oasis, Nesakkaram, Mithra Rehabilitation Centre, Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST), Siragu - Wings of Change, Visai and SCARF were present with a wide range of their products including handcrafted apparel, cards and bags, handicrafts, health mixes, snack products and eco cleaners.
MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Vasanth and honoured to have been part of the event and appreciates the efforts of the institute in organising it to acknowledge the contribution of the NGOs. The Foundation is grateful for their commitment to spreading awareness about organ donation at every possible opportunity.
