MOHAN Foundation Delivers a Talk on Organ Donation to members of a Self Help Group in Avadi

  • On 2nd March 2019, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness programme on Organ Donation for the members of a Self Help Group in Ayyappan Koil Street, Avadi North. The programme was supported by the Madras Social Service Society. The session which began around 3.30 pm was attended by about 57 SHG members of the Avadi branch. The talk was delivered by Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive – MOHAN Foundation and Mr. Albin Joseph – Intern, assisted by Ms. Sunisha S.S (Intern from Madras Medical Mission College of Health Sciences).

     

    Mr. Albin Joseph began by explaining the different organs and their functions, brain death and its causes, how organs could be donated, and the legalities involved. He also briefed about the organs that can be donated, the time factor in organ transplantation from a donor to a recipient, introduced the donor card and the help line number.

     

    The following were a few questions that were asked:

    • What are the organs that could be donated?
    • How to register when in need of an organ?
    • Family’s involvement and consent in the donation process 

    11 SHG members registered their name as Organ Donors and received donor cards. MOHAN Foundation thanks Ms. Ramani Jebakumar and the Madras Social Service Society for providing the opportunity to talk about organ donation.
