MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Program on Organ Donation for Rotary Club, Chandigarh

  • On 20th September 2021, Mr. Sudhir Dewan was invited by Mr. Jaspal Sidhu, President, Rotary Club, Chandigarh to conduct a virtual Organ Donation Awareness Program titled, "Noble Act of Organ Donation - Perspectives", for the members. Around 69 members attended the session. Dr. Vineet Bhatia gave a formal introduction of Mr. Sudhir Dewan.

     

    Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Mr. Dewan

     

    In this talk, he explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Challenges in organ donations in Northern states.
    • Real life story of an organ transplant patient was shared with the participants
    • Importance of organ donor card
    • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
    • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

     

    Participants were greatly motivated after Mr. Dewan shared his own story and stories of other organ donations at Chandigarh. Most of the deceased organ donations at Chandigarh have been from people belonging to the following states – Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

     

    Dr. Dinesh Dua and Dr. Meenu asked questions regarding Organ Banking, PMP rate of Organ Donation, Live Donations at PGIMER and Rotary sponsoring poor patients for organ transplants. Rotary members were highly motivated and are now going to plan awareness programs for their individual clubs.
