  • Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai organized a CME on 25th March 2013. This CME was organized as a farewell to Prof.  Dr. S. Manoharan,  HOD. Dept. of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Padmasree Dr. C. S. Sadhasivan Auditorium. The CME was chaired by Dr. J. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, Cadaver Transplant Programme, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. 

     

    Post graduate doctors from Cardiothoracic Surgery department made presentation on the following topics

    1. Historical perspective of cardiac transplantation
    2. Pre-operative preparation of donor & recipient
    3. Surgical techniques of cardiac transplant
    4. Post-operative management of transplant patient
    5. Post-operative complications & long term outcome of cardiac transplant

     

    Dr. Amalorpavanathan spoke about the number of heart transplants done in Tamil Nadu. He encouraged the post graduates to develop a registry for recipients and also to utilize the heart valves for suitable patients from brain dead donors. Ms. Veena, Transplant Coordinator made a presentation on organ donation procedures followed in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Following the CME, felicitation & honouring of retiring professor, Prof.  Dr. S. Manoharan  took place.
