Awareness session on organ donation at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, New Delhi

  • On May 24, 2019, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, New Delhi. It was organized by Ms. Pragati Rao (Manager, Operations & Quality) for the nurses and doctors of the hospital. Dr. Pallavi Rekhi coordinated the session and Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi was the resource person for the session.

    Mata Chanan Devi Hospital (MCDH) is a 210-bedded multi-disciplinary super specialty hospital which caters to 20-25 lakhs of population base and 600-700 patients per day in the OPD. MCDH is a premier tertiary care hospital for the population of South-West Delhi and adjoining states of UP and Haryana. It is a trust hospital that is spread across an area of 4.25 acres. 

    The session began with Dr. Muneet introducing herself and the Foundation and its activities. She then enquired from the participants about their designations and specialties. They were largely nurses from medical, neuro and cardiac intensive care units and senior nursing staff from the administration. Dr. A.C. Shukla, Medical Superintendent, Mata Chanan Devi Hospital and Dr. Shephali Bhasin, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Mata Chana Devi Hospital were other senior people who attended the talk.

    After the introductions, a motivational video on organ donation was shown and the participants were encouraged to share their views and feelings on the same. Then the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation were explained with the help of a simple, easily comprehensible PowerPoint presentation. When speaking on the subject of brain death, a short video was shown for better understanding and clarity.

    How to start a deceased organ donation program in a hospital was explained at length as the hospital is looking to start a Kidney Transplantation program. Different ways and means to increase awareness in and around the hospital with the help of standees, posters, brochures and awareness talks were also discussed.

    After the talk, Dr. Shukla addressed the audience and thanked MOHAN Foundation representatives for a very informative and interesting session.

    Close to 65 participants attended the session.
