Awareness session on Organ Donation for the nurses at Artemis Hospitals, Gurugram

  • On November 22, 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct a session on organ donation for the nurses of Artemis Hospitals, Gurugram. The session was organized by nursing education department and Ms. Shafia Hameed was the resource person for the session.

     

    Shafia began the session by interacting with the participants by asking them as to how many of them had heard about organ donation or if anyone had pledged their organs. Many were aware about the cause and one of them shared that she had pledged for organ donation. Basic concepts of organ donation was explained by means of a simple powerpoint presentation. The current statistics of organ donation in India were discussed and how increased donation rate will help bridge the gap between demand and supply of organs was also emphasized.

     

    While speaking on the topic of brain death the participants had different views on it. Some even said that brain death and coma was  same. A short movie on brain death was then shown to the participants for better understanding and clarity. It was also emphasized that organ donation can only take place when the patient is declared brain dead. At the end of the session, myths around organ donation were discussed. 

     

    Close to 40 nurses attended the session.
