On February 10, 2023, Mr. Gabriel from the MOHAN Foundation, in association with SOTTO Goa - NAVE JIVIT - conducted an organ donation awareness programme at St. Mary’s Convent High School, Mapusa.
Mr. Gabriel spoke about the MOHAN Foundation and introduced the speaker, Dr. Preeti Varghese, Joint Director of SOTTO Goa and NAVE JIVIT, the Organ Transplant Programme initiative of the Government of Goa, India.
Dr. Varghese showed a PowerPoint to the students. The session was very interactive, with students asking various questions like, "When skin donation is done, does it need a Green Corridor?" Dr. Varghese explained all about the Green Corridor.
Before ending the talk, Dr. Varghese told 8 teachers and 8 students to come up. Dr. Varghese gave the students 8 cut-outs of organs, where she acted as the donor and the students were doctors of the respective fields of the organs, giving a live-saving organ to the teachers, who acted as recipients.
The session ended with Mr. Gabriel showing a short video, "Live Beyond Life," a short-animated presentation on organ donation by Shweta Gupta. He also gave out flyers of the MOHAN Foundation to the students and teachers.
Around 200 students from grades 8 through 10 attended, along with teachers and the principal.
