  • On 30th December 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr. Yogesh Nathuram More, Senior Inspector for an awareness talk on organ donation.

The session was started by Mrs. Indumati Thakker (social worker) about the present situation in the country as far as organ requirement for the patients on waiting list is concerned is very critical, and then she introduced Mrs. Jigisha Yadav as a social worker and counselor from MOHAN Foundation.

She explained the concept of organ donation, types of death, organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death & after brain death. She also explained the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and coma. Myths and facts relating to organ donation were explained and information about organ allocation, and distribution were also shared.

The audience was thereafter explained the legal aspects, the actual role of police when Brain death occurs in Medico Legal cases. Forms 8 and 10 pertaining to Transplantation of Human Organs Act were discussed and they were made familiar with the procedure. It was highlighted to them that timely coordination by police will make a huge difference as it can save organ harvesting time if such requests were to come to them from the hospital, for their approval.

Around 30 police personnel attended the session.  Some of them took the Pledge form to donate their organs. Few senior police inspectors also took the pledge. We thank Mr. Yogesh Nathuram More (Senior Inspector) and Mr. Juikar (PSI) for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
